Research and documentary development tutoring (Virginia García del Pino)

Teacher: Virginia García del Pino

Objectives: To provide students with the necessary tools to learn how to develop their own projects. These tutorials are conceived as a workshop in which practical exercises are carried out (writing and filmmaking) that are related to the topics proposed by the students. The students work individually and in groups, presenting the results in class, creating a space for discussion and reflection on the cinematographic form.
It is an open space in which the idea, script and audiovisual treatment are worked on so that the projects grow into a possible film. Since the Master will produce some of these projects, students are asked to adapt their ideas to the geographical framework of Barcelona or nearby towns. Once these ideas are developed, the workshop is focused on developing them into a professional dossier and a teaser (promotional video) so that students learn how to present their future projects to the industry.

Writing a professional production dossier (Vanesa Fernández, Ander Barinaga-Rementeria and Virginia Garcia del Pino)

Profesoras: Vanesa Fernández, Virginia García del Pino Ander Barinaga-Rementeria.

Objectives: This workshop is oriented to the production design of a documentary film. It is intended to train students to be able to know the different production processes and to reach sectors of cultural, educational, social and economic life, and also to be able to manage them, i.e. to know the markets, sources of financing, production control tools, distribution methods, etc.
In this way, students will have to prepare a complete production dossier and thus acquire the necessary knowledge required in a documentary project, from the creation of the contents to the design and execution of the aesthetic, narrative and technical aspects involved. Special importance will be given to the presentation and communication of the projects (the dossier, the preparation of the pitching), since this constitutes one of the central factors of its viability.

Duration: 16 hours (4 sessions of 4 hours each).

Direct and chamber sound exercises (Amanda Villavieja and Carlos Muñoz)

Teachers: Amanda Villavieja and Carlos Muñoz

Objectives: In documentary it is necessary to learn good theoretical and historical concepts, but as an artistic discipline it also needs a technical team. Learning how to handle technical equipment provides the tools for resolution and the most important thing: freedom and independence.
The programmed camera and sound workshops are aimed at learning the handling and care of the cameras and sound equipment available in the master’s program. Thus, this course will alternate mornings or afternoons spread over different days of the calendar, with theoretical and practical classes focused on the use of technical equipment.

Consult complete program of camera practices.
Consult complete program of sound practices.

Video editing practices (Nila Núñez Urgell)

Professor: Nila Núñez Urgell

Objectives: To provide students with basic knowledge of editing programs so that they can prepare preliminary assemblies of their projects.

See the complete program for these sessions.

Duration: 12 hours (3 sessions of 4 hours each)

Pitch workshop (Miguel Ángel Martin)

Teacher: Miguel Ángel Martín

Objectives: To achieve skill and ability in the communication of our projects. The pitching technique is becoming more and more popular in the project selection process. Production companies, institutions, markets have replaced the old script reading cabinets for pitching sessions, where filmmakers compete to capture the attention of producers through the direct exposure/sale of their ideas. Therefore, in the workshop it is key to deepen the communication, power and clarity of the students’ proposals for their presentation in a pitching session organized by the master’s program and convened by a panel of professionals and academics.

Duration: 13 hours (3 sessions of 4 hours each and 1 session of 1 hour of final evaluation after the pitching).
