Maider Fernández Iriarte is an educator and filmmaker. After graduating in Social Education from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), she completed her higher studies in Television, Film and Video Production (ESCIVI) and later obtained a Master’s Degree in Creative Documentary from Pompeu Fabra University. She worked as an audiovisual technician at the Tabakalera International Centre of Contemporary Culture and later became part of the mediation team of the same centre, being in charge of the audiovisual programmes “ZOOM” or “Zine Plaza” among other activities. She has been a photography teacher in Donostia Kultura for 3 years and has given documentary film workshops in different places such as Zineleku, International Short Film Festival VIA XIV Verín or Tabakalera, among others.

She has also been part of the collective Las chicas de Pasaik, whose work has been recognized and exhibited in numerous festivals such as San Sebastian, SEFF, FIC Uruguay, Filmadrid, Nantes, among others. Their works include “La chica de la luz” premiered at the San Sebastian International Film Festival and “Gure Hormek”, a short film shortlisted for the Goya Awards, which won, among other prizes, the Grand Prize of Basque Cinema in Zinebi or the Award for Best Documentary Short at the Malaga Film Festival.

She has just finished her last short film “Amor Siempre” made thanks to the production support Injuve 2016. She is currently making her first documentary feature film “Las letras de Jordi” produced by Señor y Señora. This project was selected in the development program Ikusmira Berriak of the CICC Tabakalera and the San Sebastian Festival, where it won the Rec Postproduction Award. The project has also participated in the pitching program Abycine Lanza, in the Work in Progress of the Gijón International Film Festival and in the Mentoring Projects L’Alternativa, development program where she participated as a mentor last year.
